St. Andrew's Church
Saint Andrew's Church - is one of the most impressive buildings of baroque style in Ukraine. From its terrace breathtaking view on ancient Podol and left bank of Dnieper river opens. It was built by order of the Russian Empress Elizabeth from 1749 till 1754 according to the project of imperial architect Bartolomeo Rastrelli, who designed not only building but iconostasis and created its template in original size. Paintings of Andrew's church present great interest- though they are all dedicated to the religious subject, they resemble secular life, typical for baroque style effective postures, trim clothes and sceneries.

Mariyinsky Palace was built on the place, personally chosen by the Empress Elizabeth (daughter of Peter the Great), according to the project of architect Rustrelli in baroque style in 1750-1755. Palace neighbours with Mariyinsky park (founded 1874) and City Garden (or Tsar’s Garden, founded in 1743). Shape of fountains and bushes are typical for XVIII, interiors keep furniture, chandeliers (antique and modern imitations of XVIII-XI style), works of famous artists, including small fragments left from wall-paintings made by Alliaudi. Several reconstructions ( after great fire of 1868-1870, bombing during World War II) held this building for future generations. Now days this historical building is used as a state residence, where high level meetings with official delegations of foreign countries and summits take place.
